BitDefender, an award-winning provider of security software and services, today reports a new virus high-spreading in the wild: Win32.Melare.A@mm. The computer virus comes as a false alert against the famous human virus SARS. BitDefender Labs released a free removal tool for those already infected by this highly dispersed virus.

“This new speculation of the SARS famous plague is another prove that subjects with a large exposure in the media become a favorite theme for virus writers”, Bogdan Dragu, Virus Researcher at BitDefender said. “This one looks like it isn’t the first nor the last virus of the author; it shows that an experienced malware author is behind the tricky alert”, Bogdan concluded.
