Independent Test Confirms the Value Of HiVE Technology

August 2005

According to independent German testing outfit AV-Test, BitDefender antivirus was capable to detect six out of six variants of the Zotob virus without the need for a signature update.

The report was immediately echoed in the press and prompted BitDefender CTO, Bogdan Dumitru, to comment:
"I am elated to see this first independent, public confirmation of the HiVE technology. We have put great hope, faith and effort in the idea of proactive detection of viruses using heuristics in a virtual environment. We've now passed from the realm of laboratory tests to that of real-world data. It is worth noting that all BitDefender customers benefit from this technology, and so were protected from Zotob before we even heard of it at the BitDefender Labs."

The Zotob virus continues to make headlines this week, after bringing down the systems of several large institutions and companies, notable among which those of CNN, ABC and database systems which service the US airports network.

AV-Test (http://www.av-test.org/) is an anti-virus research project at the Institute of Technical and Business Information Systems at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany).
