The InfoSecurity New York fair will be hosting the launch of BitDefender's latest gateway security solutions. A wide range of products aimed at securing Linux mailservers will be rolled out in the next few days, starting today with the new BitDefender for qmail 1.6.1.

Far from being your usual minor version, 1.6.1 brings a host of new features to an already long list of improvements to the updating process, already the best in the industry (see table, reproduced by courtesy of mr. Andreas Marx, www.av-test.org) thanks in part to the revolutionary Update Pushing technology,

As of this version, any part of an installed BitDefender product can be updated on-the-fly. Using the BitDefender Swiss Army kniFE (bdsafe), the system administrator may choose to automatically apply all the patches, as they are released, thus reducing the workload or to apply selected patches manually.

Also in the improved updating category, the antispam filters can now be automatically updated over the internet in the same manner as the virus signatures and scanning engines. 3 antispam technologies are provided an improved heuristic filter, WhiteList/BlackList, URL Filter. Additional filters, such as an Image Filter, will be added as part of the regular update process, at no extra cost to customers.

BitDefender for qmail 1.6.1 has the ability to run in a Virtual Server environment (Linux VServer) , thus enabling multiple instances of BitDefender to run on a single machine.

Version 1.6.1 also brings a new statistics system, implementing persistent counters for emails, files and objects.

The web-based interface has also been updated to reflect the latest changes. Also, a Windows-based remote management console will be available shortly.

BitDefender for qmail 1.6.1 is available in formats fitting all major Linux distributions and is a certified RedHat Ready application.
